£25m equipment grant for farmers

Defra has opened the third and final round of the government’s Countryside Productivity Small Grants Scheme. The scheme opened for applications on 7 October.

£25m has been made available to help farmers fund investments in new equipment and technology.

The Countryside Productivity Small Grants Scheme offers grants of between £3,000 and £12,000 for individual farms to improve efficiency and benefit the environment.

Grants cover up to 40% of the equipment costs, meaning the minimum total value of kit purchased is £7,500 and the maximum is £30,000.

Farmers who applied in the first round of funding can also submit a new application to receive further funding. However, the combined total value of their applications must not exceed £12,000.

Although this is the final round of this scheme, powers have been included in the Agriculture Bill for a similar support system, with further details due to be released later this year.

All equipment types must be taken from a specified list of eligible items that are set out in the guidance notes on the government’s website. This list includes a standard cost which is the maximum fixed price Defra will pay out on.

It is important to check the farm details on the RPA service before applying, as they must exactly match the details on the application form.

All applications must be received by 12pm on Wednesday 4 November 2020.
