Grandparents could be missing out on possible pension perk

Thousands of grandparents who look after their grandchildren while parents go to work continue to miss out on a perk that could increase their state pension.

The Government launched the Specified Adult Childcare credits back in 2011. As a result, a parent returning to work after the birth of a child can sign a form that allows a grandparent, or other family member, to recieve national insurance credits, provided the child is under 12.

According to recent research by the end of last year only 10,000 grandparents had taken advantage of this scheme.
