Meet the Director - Debbie Thatcher

Debbie Thatcher

Having grown up in East Devon on the family farm, it seemed natural for Debbie to gravitate towards rural accounting when she joined the Chard office of Lentells in 1992 as an equivalent to todays apprentice. Debbie was asked to join the Board of directors from March 2016, when she moved across to the Taunton office.

Debbie’s portfolio grew as she gained her qualifications and she has a mix of clients that are predominantly rural, however she also acts for many other industries from car garages to engineering companies as well as beauty salons and many other industries in between. Debbie also has some clients that just need help with their tax affairs. They are located all around the South West, but with technology as it is now, Lentells client base is expanding all over the UK with a few clients overseas.

In 2019, Debbie studied and passed the probate exams that meant she could deal with probate applications as this is a regulated activity. This then meant that, along with some other colleagues within Lentells, she could help clients with tax planning as well as dealing with the estates of the deceased when times are tough. Lentells also prepare simple wills and powers of attorney. Debbie can sometimes be found giving talks to various groups on succession planning.

Outside of the office, Debbie is married to Dave and has two offspring. Their son is currently studying (amongst other things!) at Harper Adams University, whilst their daughter is in her final GCSE year. They have all also had many hours of fun showing Debbie’s parents pedigree Suffolk sheep at various agricultural shows and love to spend time at the farm.

In recent years, Debbie has been treasurer of Chardstock Vintage Tractor & Machinery club, helping to organise many events to raise money for charity as well as having fun on tractor trundles, rally days, vintage ploughing and mowing.

Debbie is also on the committee of Somerset Centre of Management in Agriculture that ‘meets’ monthly throughout the winter months with a varied program to help and inform members in providing speakers to share ideas and also arranging visits and host farm competitions.
