Ask an Apprentice - George & Harvey

Hear from George and Harvey who are both based in our Taunton office and are currently studying towards their AAT Level 4 qualifications at Richard Huish College.

How long have you been at Lentells and what does your job role involve?

George: I have been working at Lentells since August 2022. I started off learning Level 3 AAT at Richard Huish College, then moved onto Level 4 after passing my exams. My role at Lentells is stated as an Accounts Apprentice Level 4, this is a very broad term as at work I complete various activities. I train in Bookkeeping, VAT, Accounts & Tax. All of these are on rotation throughout the year allowing a constant flow of practice.

Harvey: My role at Lentells started in November 2022 as a bookkeeper/apprentice. In this role, I engage in tasks such as bookkeeping, VAT, and general accounts management. My journey in accountancy began with studying Level 3 AAT at Richard Huish College, and after successfully passing my exams, I progressed to Level 4 AAT, which I am currently pursuing. This combination of practical work experience and academic study has allowed me to develop a well-rounded skill set in accountancy.

Why did you choose to do an apprenticeship in accountancy?

George: I chose to do an apprenticeship in accountancy because I was interested in the ways that Businesses run. My A-Levels definitely attributed to this decision, as in two of my subjects I was studying Business and Maths. When deciding on my future career options I debated on going to University to study on a much deeper level. However after research I found that there were so many more benefits in starting apprenticeship. You learn whilst you earn. You get real life practical experience in business. You set yourself up perfectly for the future.

Harvey: I chose to pursue an apprenticeship in accountancy because of my interest in understanding how businesses operate. This interest was sparked during my A-Level studies, where I took Business and Economics, which provided me with a foundational understanding of the corporate world. Initially, I considered attending university to delve deeper into these subjects, but after researching my options, I realised that an apprenticeship offered unique advantages. These include the opportunity to earn while you learn, gain real-life practical experience, and set myself up for a successful future in the field. The hands-on experience and early career development that an apprenticeship provides were key factors in my decision.

What are the benefits of doing an apprenticeship at Lentells?

George: One benefit of working at Lentells which I have experienced over the time I have worked here would be the fact that everyone is very caring and supportive in your career growth. I have always received helpful feedback and encouragement, allowing me to improve at a steady pace, I have always been given new activities allowing me to expand my knowledge and I always have a chance to ask questions. I would certainly recommend choosing an apprenticeship at Lentells if you are looking at boosting your future career in accountancy.

Harvey: One of the standout benefits of doing an apprenticeship at Lentells is the supportive and nurturing environment. Over the course of my time here, I have found that everyone at the company is caring and supportive of my career growth and a joy to work with. I have consistently received helpful feedback and encouragement, which has allowed me to improve at a steady pace. Additionally, I am regularly given new activities and challenges that help me expand my knowledge and skills. The open and collaborative culture at Lentells ensures that I always have the opportunity to ask questions and seek guidance, which has been invaluable to my development.
